Little Hearts

Sam's story started on February 24, 2010. We didn't know about any defects until an hour after birth. We were devastated to find that Sam's heart had Atrioventricular Canal Defect with Bilateral Superior Vena Cava and Dextrocardia. We went to Boston Children's from Women & Infants on March 11th where Sam got a pulmonary artery banding and was sent home on April 16th and grew to be beautiful, fat and so happy. He was also a little brother to Lily, 3 and Jake, 10.

The doctors said he'd have his complete repair at 6 1/2 months and would do fine. He was 18.5 lbs when he went back for surgery on September 20th. After 9 hours the surgeon came and said everything looked good and he was off bypass; we were so relieved! At 2 in the morning we got a phone call and Sam's heart went into arrhythmia which they couldn't fix with meds so they placed him on ECMO to rest his heart. Another surgery and 2 caths later, on October 11th Sam lost his fight. He will always be our ANGEL. Our beautiful baby boy taken "what went so wrong." We miss you so much!
