Bailey, born 2009
Bailey Jean was "Baby B" of a triple blessing this past April at 33 weeks and 6 days. When I was 30 weeks pregnant, we learned that Bailey had Tetralogy of Fallot. After two weeks in the NICU, Bailey was transferred to the PICU at U of MN Children's Hospital. She spent the next 2 1/2 -3 weeks battling "tet spells", bradycardia & tachycardia spells, low blood oxygen levels and receiving numerous blood transfusions. Finally, at 42 days old, Bailey underwent open-heart surgery to repair her heart. Thankfully, the surgery was successful! Bailey does have some other health issues, but none as serious as the heart. She does need some "touch up" work on the heart this fall/winter, but we know she'll do well. God and her Doctors do amazing work.
Like everyone else, this journey is very difficult. In fact, I often refer to it as "the emotional roller coaster from hell." While no two stories are the same, they are often filled with the same emotional ups and downs that come with the fear of losing a child. Just when things look like they are slowing down and getting better, a nasty sharp turn for the worse is right around the bend. I am happy to report that we are currently on the boring part of the ride... the small, easy baby hills with a few steep inclines insight.
At just 6 months old, Bailey spends her days playing, snuggling, rolling and bonding with her triplet sister and brother, in addition to her big brother.
