Elliot, born 2007
At twenty weeks pregnant, we received the diagnosis that changed our world completely. Our baby would be born with a congenital heart defect and would need surgery at birth. We spent the remaining weeks terrified.
At 35 weeks pregnant we uprooted our family from Charlotte, NC and traveled to Philadelphia, PA to await his birth and then surgery.
At 39 weeks, on October 29, 2007, Elliot Jude Booth was born and diagnosed with Double Outlet Right Ventricle and Pulmonary Atresia. Two days later on Halloween, his first open heart surgery was performed where a complete repair was accomplished. He was later re-diagnosed with having TOF, DORV, PA.
Thirteen days later we were in route back to our home in Charlotte. We have spent the past two and a half years feeling like the luckiest people in the world. His "little heart" has taught us so much about life. He is a success story and thanks to the advancements in pediatric cardiology that are occurring on a daily basis, he will be a success story when he is 95 years old!
