Shane, born 2012
Shane was born on March 11, 2012 at 9:18 a.m. 7 lb 3 oz. Everything went well while we were in the hospital, so I thought. On the last day at the hospital they were doing the normal checks and his pulse ox was in the low 80s the nurse said it was because he was moving. Later that day they came and took him to check his pulse ox again and after an hours they finally got it up to 96 one time while he was asleep and called it good. We were discharged an hour later.
At his one month well visit he just got back to his birth weight 7 lb. 3 oz. so his pediatrician told us to keep up the weekly weight checks. The next weight check on April 19th his pediatrician said his heart sounded loud and referred us to a pediatric cardiologist.
On the17th the cardiologist told us he had five congenital heart defects Double Outlet Right Ventricle, Hypoplastic Left Ventricle, Tricuspid Atresia, Ventricle Septal Defect, and Sub Aortic Stenosis and that he'd send us to Children's in New Orleans for surgery two weeks later..
On April 24 Shane stopped eating and just slept when he did wake up to eat his eyes would roll back in the head and he would fall right back to sleep. So we went to the ER and on the 25th we left for The Children's Hospital New Orleans. He had his heart catheterization on April 27 and a pulmonary artery banding procedure on April 30.
He will need two more surgeries the Glenn and the Fontan. His cardiologist is saying he will be referred back to Children's in New Orleans for the Glenn at the end of July. Shane is my life and he is a little fighter and he doesn't even know it.
